Welcome to the Feelings Fitness Podcast. Let's flash back to 2023, when we took a 52 week road trip together to discuss home health, happiness and habits. We created a road trip to work towards feeling fit mind, body and spirit. Now we'll revisit those 52 weeks in just 52 days. There are many more adventures in store for 2024, but let's look back on how far we've come and set ourselves up for more success.
Speaker 1:Welcome to week 46 of our 52 week road trip through 2023 together, and we are talking about health habits, the body in particular. Last week, we were talking about the mind. Now we are going to talk more specifically about the body. And what I wanted to say for starters, before we revisit episodes 120 through 124 and take a look at some of the healthy habits that came up in those episodes, what I wanna start off by saying is I had this moment where I thought about all these different articles that I'll read, links that I'll click on, because I wanna find out what habits I need to be implementing in order to be healthy, right? So there's all these lists, and every single one of them tends to be so, so, very obvious. It's like eat well, sleep well, move your body, and this tends to be easier said than done. So what I want to offer to you is, if you are reading these lists and you are thinking, oh my goodness, like duh, that's so obvious, but why can't I do these things, why can't I just maintain these things? Well, life is complicated, let's be honest. There are lots of bumps in the road, there are lots of twists and turns in the path that we take. So some ideas on how to actually implement these obvious lists that are being told to us.
Speaker 1:First of all, find things that you enjoy and let me also say that those aren't always super obvious. So sometimes you have to test out different options, but before you land into something that you really enjoy and sometimes you have to get over the tough part of being a beginner before you land in the joy of that practice, whatever it may be right, or that habit Do some work to find things that you enjoy first of all. Second of all, find a buddy. The buddy system and accountability partner goes a really really long way. Then know your why, really really know your why, because your why will really be the thing that you can grab onto when times get difficult, when there is that bump in the road when there is that thing that pops up that you weren't expecting. So make sure you know your why for having certain healthy habits.
Speaker 1:Then focus on your future self. This has helped me out time and time again, where I really just take a beat and I pause and I look into the future. I'll even close my eyes, take a deep breath and I'll look into the future and think what would my future self want and how would my future self feel if I did it this way or that way? So think about your future self. Then this one is really where it's at and it's really the toughest one, and I really don't have a whole lot of answers for you, but we can work on it. The final one manage your time. When you're starting out with exercise or eating healthy or getting better sleep, all these things really boil down to managing your time well. So how can you manage your time well enough to keep healthy habits? So that's that, and now I want to just take a couple of minutes and look back at some of these previous episodes and things that we looked at.
Speaker 1:For having a healthy body, one piece of it which doesn't seem super obvious is what you put on your body. So in this episode I really just suggested some products and some things to consider when you put things on your body and making sure that you have quality, healthy, non-toxic items putting on your body. So I suggested Primally Pure Thrive Cosmetics, fiori Clothing, bowl and Branch Sheets, embedding and then using Thieves Detergent for washing your clothing and your bedding. So consider what you put on your body. Then the obvious one move your body right. So in my opinion, I say the trifecta is yoga, which works on the mind, the body and the spirit. But in essence, just moving your body will reduce cortisol, which is that stress hormone which in turn, creates less stress in the body, which in turn creates less inflammation, less illness. So really think about moving your body, find something you enjoy, find a buddy system, but move your body one way or the other.
Speaker 1:Then there's definitely food for fuel. So fueling the body is super important and we talked about what to eat before, during and after a yoga class, but really, in essence, we're talking about getting enough water, getting enough combination of those proteins and complex carbohydrates, and what I like to do is I like doing smoothies, for sure, where I add in your super powders into it with all the different fruits and veggies, and I like to use coconut water to mix it together. So things like that. I always have some nuts to snack on. I choose oftentimes in the evening, instead of having some sort of alcoholic beverage, I like to have a hop water or a green tea. And then for desserts, dark chocolate is just better for the body than most sweets would be. Then also, when you're thinking about fueling the body, think about the dirty dozen and go organic with those items. So lots of different ways to fuel the body using the food that we eat.
Speaker 1:Now this one gets super tricky and super complex. I always say just go with simplicity and don't get yourself so overwhelmed with the sciences behind all of the whys of eating these certain foods and how they actually fuel your body. So don't get too caught up in the science of it. Just stay simple and have a nice balance of the proteins and the complex carbohydrates. And finally, food for mood. This is the Feelings Fitness podcast, so our feelings, our emotions, are always key when it comes to what we talk about.
Speaker 1:So, food for mood. This is so fascinating because there are lots of foods that can be helpful in mood, because there is this gut, brain connection, and the gut is said to be like the second brain, and the way that we digest foods and the way that our particular bodies respond to different foods can impact our mood. But also there's this fact that serotonin the happy hormone 95% is found in the gut, so you want to make sure that you are adding some good stuff into the gut so it can, in turn, impact your mood in a very positive way. I will leave you with all of that in terms of some ideas for having healthy habits when it comes to your body. I hope you're enjoying 52 weeks and 52 days, a compact version of the transformational road trip we took through 2023. We're revisiting those 52 episodes and it's a review of home health, happiness and the habits that guide the way to feeling fit mind, body and spirit. It's also a food for thought for how you want to feel.
